Studio foyer exhibition
Ornamental porcelain – in the form of boxes, bowls or vases embellished with tropical plants, dancers or wild animals – was enormously popular in the 1920s. For Rosenthal, Kurt Wendler (1893-1980) designed phantastical dream worlds through imaginative decorations in gold and vivid colors. They embody and speak the stylized expressive design language of Art Deco. Even today, these hand-painted porcelain objects are still highly desired collector's items. The collection is complemented by designs by other artists such as Kurt Severin.
All exhibited objects stem from the collection of Prof. Dr. Peter W. Schatt.
