DANKE. MERCI. GRAZIE. HARTELIJK DANK.

Selection of new acquisitions and donations

The 150th anniversary of the museum should not be allowed to pass without a symbolic bow to our donors, whose gifts have helped expand and update the collections of this establishment. In the last five years alone, it was possible to inventory almost 6,000 items as donations in the craft/design range, as well as 10,000 pieces in the graphics/book-art/photography range. Only a small number of these are accommodated in the permanent exhibitions, and this special exhibition in the pillar hall was only large enough to display a modest selection from the plethora of donations. Pieces from the field of historic art until year 1900, Asia and art nouveau up until the 1940s are displayed in cabinets on the eastern side of the pillar hall, whereas the west side contains pieces from the1950s up until the present day.

The exhibition is expanded upon in the form of two satellite presentations: The adjacent studio-foyer houses new arrivals from the art-déco porcelain collection of Prof. Peter W. Schatt. Between March and October 2025, we will be displaying alternating constellations of works on paper, as well as textiles and furniture, in the new cabinet-box in the café-foyer, since these are pieces that cannot be displayed in the pillar hall due to their sensitivity to light or their format.

The GRASSI would like to extend a huge DANKE. MERCI. GRAZIE. HARTELIJK DANK to its domestic and foreign benefactors for all the wonderful gifts!

Entry in this special exhibition is free!
