museums' birthday
From January to December, the museum is celebrating its opening 150 years ago with exciting exhibitions, a variety of events, new high-ranking works of art, interventions in the permanent exhibition, interesting projects and collaborations. The anniversary year will focus on the three special exhibitions A CHAIR AND YOU, FUTURES. and the exhibition DANKE. MERCI. GRAZIE. HARTELIJK DANK.
As a highlight, we invite our friends and guests to celebrate together on the festival weekend 25 + 26 May 2024!
Programme:
SATURDAY 25 May, 1 p.m. untill midnight
- Short guided tours through permanent and special exhibitions
- Discussion between the museum director Dr Olaf Thormann and the restorer, publisher and collector Prof Jochen Voigt about his extensive donation
- Individual mid-century pieces at the "Design zu haben" Friends' sales campaign
- Live music with the Leipzig band "Kardamom Kollektiv"
- Poetry slam
- Graphic recording
- Dance into the evening with THE GREAT GRASSI and music from the 1920s to 1940s
SUNDAY, 26 May, 1 p.m. until 6 p.m.
- Artisan trail in the inner courtyards with stone sculptors, blacksmiths, glassblowers, drawing school, potter's wheel and much more.
- "Timestamps" - six interactive time stations spanning 150 years provide insights into particularly important steps in the development of art and craftsmanship since the museum was founded
- Short guided tours through permanent and special exhibitions
The FabMobil will also be a guest on both days, inviting visitors to marvel at and try out creative technologies such as 3D printing, virtual reality, robotics and programming.
Admission to all activities is free.
